Architecture at large is a seasoned resource for design vision and execution focused on residential and commercial interiors, architecture, furniture, and integrated objects. New York-based architect and interior designer Rafael de Cárdenas of Architecture At Large approached Cape Town’s Unknown Union with a much lighter touch. He has thrown away the old and boring concept of men’s wear display. Designer Rafael de Cárdenas of New York created the interior of this Cape Town menswear store Unknown Union with shelving in clashing colors that fade into each other................
True design lovers can't limit their aesthetic crushes to furniture and patterns. Adding freshness to the boutique by using different hues the designer had fixed geometrical shelves and structure in the boutique. The two-level boutique, located in a historic building, exudes light and color. On the first level, white walls serve as the background to the pared-down stacked-box shelving painted in softly muted yet vibrant colors. His use of geometrics in a rainbow of colors is giving a warm look. Rafael’s work is a staircase, storage and a doorway at the same time. The two leveled show case boutique has a ceiling with a web of fluorescent lights, a trademark of de Cárdenas, with dramatic chandelier extension. These punctuate the network of shelving units, stacked cubes of various height and width configurations providing depth and visual interest in unexpected ways. The second level is an ever changing, creative space, where local and international creators and artist showcase their work. .
